We have had a wonderful response to our question, which coloured stone and why is it your favourite? Answers have ranged from choosing a stone because it is your birth stone, your Grandmothers favourite, the stone that reminds you of something beautiful in nature, to it suits your colouring. I can relate to all those answers. My grandmother’s favourite flower was a pink rose, a very pretty subtle shade of pink, so when I came to choose a stone for my engagement ring, I went for a pink Tourmaline that matched the rose she loved so much.
My Birth stone is Amethyst, or so I thought until doing a little research! As a child I was told my birthstone was Amethyst, a stone of rich deep purples I have always loved. But having just checked it out it would appear that Topaz is the correct stone for November. I feel a little confused, having thought I was an Amethyst girl, I now have to get used to being Topaz, which while I love using in jewellery, I don’t really feel it suits me.
One lovely Facebook fan mentioned that her favourite stone was Aquamarine because it reminded her of the sea, this I can totally relate to. While choosing Aquamarines to work with, one moment I will be picking a stone with a hint blue/green that makes me think of the sea at Brighton and the next I’m picking a pale, cloudy Aquamarine that reminds me of lovely cloudy pale blue skies.
What’s interesting is the lack of love for Labradorite and Smokey Quartz, only one person mentioned Labradorite and no one has love for Smokey, and yet these two stones sell so well!
